Defender Leon Legge’s rise to prominence at Brentford has gone according to script, say boss Andy Scott.
The 24-year-old former non-League star received a nomination for the FA Cup player of the round this week for his match-winning performance against Walsall last month.
Legge, an adult care worker in his former life, joined the Bees in the summer from Ryman League Premier Division side Tonbridge Angels and has impressed since making his home debut against Gateshead.
But his success has come as no surprise to Griffin Park chief Scott.
“It was always the plan to have him playing, but it was just a question of how quickly he would cope with the step up,” he said.
“Whether he can do it for 30 games on the trot is another thing because there will inevitably be a dip in form.
“He continues to learn and at the moment he is first choice.”
