Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson says he has serious concerns over his squad and has vowed to make changes after watching his side crash out of the Ryman League Cup.

Dowson fielded a full-strength side but saw Ks fall 1-0 to Ryman Division One South Fleet Town on Monday having had defender Max Hustwick sent-off.

The Kingsmeadow chief arranged a last-minute friendly clash at Chertsey Town on Wednesday to run the rule over a host of trialists.

And while he fumed at the quality of the refereeing on Monday night, he admits the manner of the defeat has raised question marks over the future of some of his men.

“We were pathetic. We let ourselves down,” he said.

“There was only one or two players prepared to give it a go.

“I have to say I’m worried about the state of my squad because that was not acceptable.

“We didn’t make a tackle in 90 minutes. We haven’t got a ball winner in the middle. I’ll be on the phone to anyone who can help get me someone who can tackle by the weekend.”

Hustwick, who faces a one-match ban, got his marching orders for denying Fleet a goalscoring opportunity, while four other Ks men went into the referee’s book.

And Dowson reckons the performance of the man in the middle - who showed the visitors four yellow cards - has put him off the minor cup competitions for good.

“The referee might say we have players who aren’t good enough to play in the Ryman League and that is fair enough, but he was out of his depth from the start,” he said.

“I played my full side because they needed a game, but I’ll not be doing that again. Unless it is the league, FA Cup or FA Trophy I’ll be putting my squad players out next time.

“Taking nothing away from Fleet, but to have nine or ten bookings in a match where there wasn’t a dirty challenge is unbelievable.”

Ks travel to Tonbridge Angels on Saturday and Dowson is expecting a tough examination.

“It is always tough there and people will have to lift their game,” said the manager.

“We are second top and I can’t name a player of the year at the moment. That’s not good enough considering the talent in the squad.”

Kingstonian’s next three games: Nov 27 Tonbridge Angels (a), 30 Maidstone Utd (a), Dec 4 Concord Rangers (h).
