In trying to get Aaron Morris back into action this weekend, the AFC Wimbledon medical team has been struggling to solve a mystery.

The 24-year-old defender limped out of the League Two 0-0 draw at Fleetwood after just half an hour on Saturday with a swollen ankle.

However, Dons boss Neal Ardley and his medical staff were at a loss as to what caused the injury.

Ardley said: “It was a strange one. Aaron did not go over on his ankle, he wasn’t kicked and it’s not a flare up of an old injury.

“But all of a sudden, he started getting a pain while he was running, it felt like it was swelling up.

“When Stuart [Douglas, physiotherapist] had a look at it, it was really puffed up but no-one quite knows what happened to get it to that point.”

He added: "His ankle has settled down a lot. Stuart is assessing him, so hopefully now that the swelling has gone and the pain is going with it, he may be able to get into training on Thursday.

“But as to what started it, it’s a mystery.”

Meanwhile, Ardley is also hopeful Andy Frampton and Alan Bennett will be back in training tomorrow.

He said: “As you get to Benno’s age, you need a little bit more time between games and that is no detriment to him.

“It was a hard slog on Newport’s pitch he put in an immense shift and come last Saturday he was not ready to go again.

“He had little things that just take a little longer to resolve themselves, so he has been on the easy list.”
