The AFC Wimbledon players were called into training on Monday so boss Neal Ardley could tell them to express themselves.

It is a philosophy he used last season to instill confidence into a side lacking self belief – but this time round there is a caveat.

Ardley said: “We want the players to be able to make their own decisions on the pitch rather than looking to us.

“But at the same time, we need to make sure they are not making passes for the sake of making passes.

“We went through the video of the Burton game, pointing out if they had made a wrong decision and how it affected the team.”

He added: “It’s a learning thing and they should have the self-confidence to express themselves in a way that benefits the team.”

After last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Burton Albion, the Dons host Cheltenham this weekend. Aaron Morris remains a doubt, while Barry Fuller, a first half substitute last weekend, should be fit.
