Neil Ardley slammed the referee after two decisions cost his side victory against promotion chasers Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Dons were denied at least one penalty when Adebayo Akinfenwa was fouled in the box during the second-half of the 0-0 draw at the Cherry Red Records stadium.

Ardley’s side also had a goal disallowed after the break when Akinfenwa was penalised for an apparent pull on Aaron Pierre in the build-up to what would have been Craig Tanner’s first goal.

Ardley said: “We win the game today if the referee makes the right decisions. The foul on Bayo [Akinfenwa] is the most stonewall penalty I’ve ever seen.

“With the goal he disallows, you watch Bayo and Pierre and couldn’t tell who was fouling who.

“Both of the decisions were wrong and it’s disappointing because this season more than ever I’ve felt the standard of refereeing has been at its worst, and I know a lot of other managers feel the same way.”

Dons have failed to win in their past six matches, which include three straight draws at home.

However, Ardley feels his side have done enough to win at home recently despite the lack of points to show for it.

“We were the better team today. We were the better team against Oxford and we were the better team in the second half against Northampton, but we haven’t got the know how,” he said.

“There is plenty of endeavor and I hope the fans think there’s a lot of positives despite the fact that we haven’t been able to pick out wins.”
