AFC Wimbledon coach Simon Bassey admitted that their emergency loan keeper was probably left wondering what he had let himself in for after the Dons 4-3 win at Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night.

Ben Wilson signed from Cardiff City yesterday (Tuesday) on a 28-day deal, and went straight into the side that travelled to the League Two play-off contenders.

The 23-year-old will provide cover while James Shea recovers from a groin injury.

The Dons, coming on the back of consecutive defeats, were 2-0 down inside 10 minutes, but they fought back to 2-2 inside 25 minutes thanks to goals from Dannie Bulman and Lyle Taylor.

Bulman was on target again before the break to ensure the Dons were still level at 3-3 going in to the second half.

Taylor hit the winner, with his third league goal of the season, on 64 minutes, and the Dons held on to claim all the points, and climb to 13th in the table.

Bassey told Dons Player: "Ben could not have done anything about the goals we conceded and after 10 minutes he was probably wondering what he had walked into.

“He made a terrific save from a free-kick near the end and I thought he had quite a good debut.

"We are happy to come away from home and get a win. Hopefully, we can repeat that feat at York on Saturday.”

He added: "From a coaching point of view there are loads of things to work on.

"It was great character from the boys to come back from 2-0 down, but we should not have to score four goals away from home to win a game.

"We are disappointed with that, but thrilled with the character that the side showed."

The Dons face another long trip this weekend to York City, who are struggling just above the League Two dropzone.
