If AFC Wimbledon are to keep their place in the League Two play-offs, they will need their strikers to keep on firing – and Jon Meades reckons they can be trusted to deliver.
Lyle Taylor has hit a rich vein of form scoring five goals in the past four games, including both goals in the 2-0 win at Dagenham & Redbridge in mid-week.
But Meades, while hailing the striker who has 19 league goals to his name, has also pointed to the supporting act.
AFC WIMBLEDON: Meades' battle to be fit for League Two finale
“Lyle is such a talented player and he’s a very good finisher and a very good player,” he said.
“He could have had three or four against Daggers because he can get into great positions and he has a great partner in Tom [Elliott].”
He added: “We have five good strikers and that gives him that competitive edge.
“As a defender you know, if it’s not going to plan, that Lyle can grab a goal, he has that ability.”
Meades is also able to put himself in the opposition’s boots, and he does not like what he sees.
He said: “If I was in an opposing defender’s shoes I would not want to face our striking options.
“You start by facing Tom and Lyle, then you look to the bench and there’s the strength of Bayo [Akinfenwa] and the pace of Adebayo [Azeez].
“Then there’s now Rhys Murphy who is quick and sharp.”
Dons host Leyton Orient this weekend, knowing three points would take them a giant step to cementing their place in the League Two play-offs.
