Despite going behind to an early goal, Brentford eased to an ultimately comfortable 3-1 win over Coventry City at Griffin Park on Saturday.

During an eventful opening, the Bees conceded early and missed a penalty before notching two well taken goals from Clayton Donaldson and Marcello Trotta to go into the break ahead.

Alan McCormack's superb breakaway goal only three minutes into the second half ensured the home side were on control for the remainder of the match.

The visitors took the lead when David Button stopped, but failed to hold, Carl Baker's shot and Callum Wilson pounced to steer the ball home.

Coventry certainly didn't sit back and Frank Moussa saw his shot deflected for  corner and Cyrus Christie's strike was tipped behind by Button.

At the other end Baker fouled Alan Judge inside the box.

The midfielder picked up both himself and the ball, only to see his well struck shot from the spot well saved by Joe Murphy, diving to his right.

The Bees didn't have to wait long to restore parity, with a well taken goal by Donaldson, who burst into the left hand side of Coventry's box and steered the ball home inside the near post from a tight angle.

Three minutes later Trotta produced almost a carbon copy of his winner at Orient last week, when he fired in a low shot from outside the box, just beating Murphy at his near post.

Coventry continued to attack and Wilson's lobbed effort flew just over the bar.

McCormack sealed the victory early in the second half when he broke clear from the half way line and showed great composure to fire past Murphy.

A great touch from Donaldson saw the striker control the ball and create space before his shot was blocked by Murphy.

Button then had to be alert to race out of his box and clear the ball in front of an advancing Wilson.

Donaldson was always a threat down the right and his cross into the box just evaded substitute Stuart Dallas at the back post as the home side kept the pressure up on leaders Wolves.
