Forrester must shape up for Bees
Uwe Rosler wants Harry Forrester to concentrate on his fitness this summer so he can help Brentford push for promotion on a regular basis.
The 21-year-old, who turned down Ajax to join Brentford last year, has struggled to nail down a regular spot with the Bees – making just six starts and completing 90 minutes only once.
But Rosler hoped the former Aston Villa trainee would knuckle down and make himself a key figure in next season’s campaign.
“Harry Forrester is such a talent, he just needs to improve his fitness and finish more games,” added Rosler.
“He has played one or two games and then has been out for two weeks, he never got the rhythm or the fitness required to play 90 minutes.
“He definitely has the right mindset but he needs a little bit of help and guidance.
“He is very ambitious and sometimes a little impatient but we can help him here.
“As long as he understands he needs to earn the right to play and he needs to be match fit and able to play both ways and that we don’t need to take him off after 65 minutes.
“I’m not criticising him in any way and his challenge is to be fit over the summer.”
The Bees end their League One season at relegated Chesterfield tomorrow, knowing they will finish in ninth.
From back page Saturday’s defeat, which featured a Clayton Donaldson penalty, saw Brentford stretch the Owls and Rosler reckoned a few new faces over the summer – and limited departures – would see similar games against the league’s top teams go the way of the Bees next season.
“We are very close and with two or three additions next season we will be in position to finish that sort of game off and push on over the line and get three points,” he said.
“I don’t think we’re in a position where we have to sell, but if the right offer comes in we will have to listen – Brentford will always have to listen to offers for players.
“Everyone is for sale but, obviously, we want to build on what we have done this season.
“You saw the reception from our supporters on Saturday and they see we are heading in the right direction.
“We are in a better position than last year and everybody can see we are not far off.”
