Holloway's Eagles fly past 50 points, and the boss wants to soar higher and higher

Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway is now looking forward rather than back after passing the magic 50-point mark.

Saturday's 2-1 Championship win over London rivals Charlton Athletic - thanks to two second-half Glenn Murray strikes - took Palace to 51 points, and also ended a run of five games without a win.

A delighted Holloway enthused about the impact of his new signings, in particular that of Kevin Phillips - signed from Blackpool on deadline day last week.

"Kevin Phillips is just a masterclass. Look how Glenn Murray played in the second half because Phillips knows what he's doing and it was brilliant to see [Jonathan] Williams and [Stephen] Dobbie come on," Holloway said.

"That's great for the lads because I feel we deserved that after the last few weeks.

"It was important we managed to get a decent result and for [Stuart] O'Keefe and [Alex] Marrow I thought it was fantastic. They were out of it, they've come back in and I want to thank them."

He added: "It was a great ball from Jazz Richards for our second goal and well done to him."

Palace are firmly ensconced in the play-off places - lying fifth and eight points ahead of Burnley in seventh - and they can climb to second with a win at Watford on Friday.

And looking up the table is now on Holloway's mind after passing the notorious 50-point mark.

He said: "This win actually puts us safe, believe or not. That's 51 points.

"Nobody has ever got relegated with that so now we can have a gallop on and see how many we can get by the end of the season.

"We have to beat last year's target. We are well on our way to do that and we will see how far that takes us."
