Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie reckons he and Jason Puncheon had the Chelsea full backs in their pockets in the Eagles' 1-0 win over the former Premier League leaders.

The three points opened a five-point gap between Palace and the trapdoor, a position strengthened on Monday night when fellow relegation fighters Sunderland went down 2-1 at home to West Ham.

After the Chelsea win, Bolasie said: "I don’t think anyone expected us to go out and win but this is football and anything can happen and it has given us all a confidence boost.

"We were gutted to lose the game in the last minute against Newcastle but we trained well on Monday and they boys were still confident and everyone played well today.

"Days like today don’t come around too often so when they do you have to just go out there and enjoy yourself.

"The gaffer told us to go out there and have fun and exploit the space and I don’t think their full backs liked it very much."

He added: "As a winger, it is important to dominate the full back and I think at some points they just did not know what me and Punch were going to do next.

"That opened the game and allowed our full backs to get forward and that’s where the goal came from.

"It was far from a lucky win. Jerome hit the post and we’ve gone close a number of times.

"It was great to see the fans buzzing as well."

Despite the jubilation at the final whisle, the DR Congo international insists that their attention turned instantly to this weekend's clash against releagtion rivals Cardiff City.

He said: "Our only focus now is on the Cardiff game. Obviously, beating Chelsea is a big thing but we are already looking towards the Cardiff game to be honest.

"It’s a six-pointer and if we can win there we can put some daylight between them and us which would be really important."
