The widow of former Crystal Palace chairman Ron Noades is holding a memorial charity event this summer.

Novello Noades is organising the event to raise money for the Velindre cancer research centre and the Royal Marsden hospital in London.

Mr Noades died on Christmas Eve last year after a year-long battle with lung cancer.

The former Eagles chairman was one of the most successful owners in the club’s history overseeing the club get to the FA Cup Final in 1990.

Ms Noades is due to be presented with a special award on behalf of Ron at Palace’s end of season awards event at Fairfield Halls next month.

She said: “As you will know, Ron lost his battle with lung cancer on Christmas Eve and has left a huge void in our lives.

“Nothing can replace him, but I want to use his name to help raise funds for vital research into this dreadful disease.

“I believe that one day all cancer will be curable and I want to play my part in making that happen.

“Velindre does a magnificent job in caring for people with cancer and also in the fight to find cures. The Royal Marsden is an incredible institution and the care my wonderful husband received there was exceptional.”

The charity evening will take place on June 13, Surrey National Golf Club, £30 a ticket or £270 for a table of ten. Call 01883 740 226 for more information or email paris.williams@altonwoodgroup.co.uk.
