Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew reckons Adlene Guedioura is a player reborn after a match-changing performance against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Algerian midfielder came off the bench at half-time in Saturday night’s 2-1 win over Spurs at Selhurst Park.

His introduction was in response to a lacklustre first-half, dominated by the in-form visitors, and although Harry Kane fired Spurs ahead just after the break, Palace came back to more than deserve the three points.

The win lifted the Eagles out of the Premier League dropzone to 15th, and they face Burnley, in 17th, next weekend.

Pardew said: “We started poorly and Spurs dominated the possession. We turned the ball over a lot and ended up with two wide players as full backs, and that is not the way to go.

“At half-time I managed to get into one or two of the players, and we brought Adlene on for Barry [Bannan].

“Adlene’s not had a chance this season, and he changed it for us, he took the game forward 10 yards.

“Barry’s a good player and I hoped to get him on the ball today, but we just could not get enough of the ball so Adlene came on.

“I don’t know him very well, but I have seen in training that he had the power and that worked for us.

“Now he has a fresh start here. He has gone into the positive mode for me and that is good for him as well.”

Pardew had praised the Selhurst Park faithful prior to the clash, and they repaid him by creating a vociferous atmosphere under the floodlights.

However, it appeared in vain when Spurs’ in-form striker Kane beat Julian Speroni just after the break to put the visitors, who had beaten Chelsea 5-3 the weekend before, in front.

However, when Joe Ledley was brought down by Benjamin Stambouli in the penalty area, Dwight Gayle stepped up to bury his eighth goal of the season from the penalty spot.

Palace could have had a second penalty when Kyle Walker handled in area, but referee Anthony Taylor waved the appeals away.

The winner was not far away however, and Jason Puncheon erased the memory of last season's penalty miss at White Hart Lane by hitting the winner with 10 minutes to go.

Pardew said: “The win is great for everyone. I’ve had fabulous welcome from everyone, not just from fans, but from the staff and players, and the ex-players – who have very sweet in their messages.

“You have a huge responsibility when your friends are sending you messages telling you better sort it out.”
