Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew says there is room for the improvement for Premier League referees after last weekend’s dismissal of Dwight Gayle.

The striker was sent off for two bookable offences in the first half of the West Ham United defeat – a result that ended an unbeaten run of three games in all competitions.

Gayle, who has four goals to his name so far this season, will miss this weekend’s trip to Leicester City.

Pardew said: “My view is the same as it was last weekend, I think Dwight’s second yellow card was a bit harsh - there is frustration there.

If you're going to Leicester City, be ready for goals, says Pardew

“Having said that, I spoke to Dwight and he understands it cannot happen again.”

He added: “I don’t know if there is much that can help the referees – maybe they need better training, facilities and analysis after the games.

“But my general view is that the general standard of refereeing in the Premier League is high, but that doesn’t mean it cannot be improved.”
