Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew will have March 19 marked in his diary after Saturday’s controversial 1-0 defeat at Leicester City.

Jamie Vardy got the only goal of the game on the hour-mark, but it was the events of the final moments that left the sourest taste in Pardew’s mouth.

Palace had three penalty shouts turned down by referee Mike Dean, and then Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri seemed to hold onto the ball for too long when it had gone off for a Leicester throw.

At the final whistle, the Italian did not shake Pardew’s hand, leaving the Palace boss looking forward to the Foxes’ visit to Selhurst Park in March next year.

He said: “I thought Claudio was goading our players and he didn’t shake my hand at full-time, which is disappointing.

“But it’s a long game and they’ve got to come to our place and we’ll remember that.”

He added: “It does not matter what I think about the penalty shouts, it’s down to the ref and he has not given them.

“But I thought our team were good. It was a tight game.

“Leicester were not going anywhere and it was a mistake that opened up the game and that was costly. We pushed and pushed in the second half, but could not find a way through.”
