Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has urged the Selhurst Park faithful to show a little patience during tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.

United drive into south-east London on the back of indifferent form having been dumped out of the Capital One Cup on penalties after a goalless draw with Championship outfit Middlesbrough.

They also failed to find the net in the 0-0 draw against Manchester City, and a 3-0 win over Everton two weeks ago came on the back of a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal.

Pardew is expecting United to dominate possession, and he hopes the Palace fans are not sent to sleep.

“United average 59 per cent possession, so we have to be patient and so do our fans. We'll need to wait for our chance,” he said.

Murray's departure has left Crystal Palace searching for goals

“Possession is key for United and I expect it to be a fairly cagey game and a real test for us.”

He added: “It's going to be important for our fans - particularly the Holmesdale End - to stay with us.

“United's long spells of possession could threaten to drive the atmosphere into a lull, but we need to keep the fans singing along.

“United aren't getting as many shots off as they normally do, but defensively they're always in a good shape.”

Pardew picked out two United players who will need special attention.

He said: “They have a thrust in Martial that is much needed in that team. We'll have to keep an eye on him.

“And [Wayne] Rooney has proved many, many times that when he gets criticism he can deliver. We'll be on our guard, because he's a very good player.

“They've not scored in two games and they'll be looking to put that right against us.”
