Former Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock admits he’s persuaded QPR striker Charlie Austin to make a switch to Selhurst Park.

The 26-year-old forward, who scored 18 goals for relegated QPR during the 2014-15 season and has netted 10 goals in 16 games this season, has been heavily linked with a move to Palace.

Alan Pardew has opened up about his desire to bolster his attacking options in the January transfer window, with the Eagles failing to score in three straight games.

And Warnock, 67, believes the former Burnley star would flourish in south London with Palace.

The former manager told talkSPORT: “I have said to him about Palace.

“I love Crystal Palace and I love QPR and I have said to him: ‘for me Charlie, the way you play, you will get opportunities at Palace’.

“They need a striker definitely and he would fit the bill. He would score goals.”

Warnock’s revelation comes after the Sun suggested that Palace were plotting a £7.5m deal for Austin.

Rangers were adamant that their striker would not leave Loftus Road in the summer, but with Austin reportedly becoming a free agent at the end of the season, the Championship club may be willing to listen to offers this month.
