Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish insists he does not care about Emanuel Adebayor’s past, he is more concerned with the hard stats.

The former Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid striker signs forms at Selhurst Park earlier this week to seal a loan deal until the end of the season.

Adebayor has a reputation of losing interest very quickly after signing for a new club and of going missing on the pitch when the going gets tough.

However, Parish pointed to the 31-year-old’s goals as being the most important factor in the striker’s career to date.

Crystal Palace: Pardew tells non-believers, do not under-estimate Adebayor

He said: “I don’t really care what has gone on at other clubs – the fact he’s scored 90-odd goals in 200 games, that’s what I like.

“Alan [Pardew] and I have spoken to people who have been involved with Emanuel, and they have all spoken highly of him – none of them have said he had ever been a problem for them, and he has performed at the highest level.

“It’s a bit like when we took Marouane [Chamakh], someone said he is not good enough for Arsenal, and I said that might be the case, I don’t know, but that does not mean he is not good enough for us.”

Adebayor has in fact scored 96 goals in 192 Premier League appearances, and he also bagged seven goals in just nine starts for Real Madrid.

Parish added: “In Emanuel we have a world class player walking in the door, and with world class players you have to manage them and you have to adapt to the way that they are.

“They have their own pressures as people, Emanuel is a massive star in Africa and a lot is expected of him.

“That puts a lot of pressure on him, and sometimes in a career things happen, but we were very comfortable with him as a person – he’s seems a very nice guy.”
