Mathieu Flamini says a discussion with Alan Pardew helped to convince him to join Crystal Palace.

The former Arsenal and AC Milan midfielder has signed a contract with the Eagles until the end of the season.

Flamini, 32, had been a free agent since being released by the Gunners following the end of last season.

The Frenchman told the official Palace website: “Crystal Palace is a very ambitious club with great players and I am looking forward to being part of that squad.

“It is a very interesting challenge for me and I am very excited to be here.

“I have had chance to discuss the move here with Alan Pardew and he really helped me make my decision.”

Palace are yet to win a league game in three attempts so far this campaign, recording a late draw against Bournemouth after losing to Tottenham and West Brom.

Pardew believes the ability and experience of Flamini can only help his Palace side, who travel to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The 55-year-old said: “I thought it was important to get another midfield player. His playing ability will help us but also his leadership qualities and his ability of how to win games in a passing style.

“I am delighted that we have secured a player of his stature.”
