Midfielder Daniel Sweeney may have been the king  of Kingsmeadow on Sunday, but he is not taking it for granted.

The 19-year-old came off the bench to score a dramatic late winner as Ks beat Dulwich Hamlet 2-1 to keep them in the Ryman Premier League tite race and end a run of three games without a win.

Sweeney, who spent two weeks on trial with Ipswich Town earlier in the season, has made 28 appearances for the club this term, but 10 of those have come off bench.

He is vying with Josh Casey and Tommy Kavanagh for  a slot in the Ks midfield engine room and,  having played catch up since his spell with the Tractor Boys, he knows he is by no means certain of a starting slot.

“I came back from Ipswich and I was out of the side, but I trusted everything Dowse has done for me,” he said.

“He took me to Ipswich and it went well down there, but I’m not thinking about that now.

“Whatever happens, happens. I’ve got to fight for my place and do well here. That is all I’m worred about.

“If anything comes up then that is great, but all I want to do is play well for Ks and make sure the club keeps doing well.

“We’ve got a great side, the management and training is great and it is a great place to be at the moment.”

Sweeney’s cameo made up for his horror show a fortnight earlier, when he came off the bench to gift Harrow Borough a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw.

Sunday’s win kept Ks third in the table – but only one point off the summit – ahead of tomorrow’s trip to struggling Carshalton Athletic.

And the significance of his goal was not lost on Sweeney.

“It is not the best one I’ve scored, that was against Enfield Town earlier in the season when I put it in the bottom corner from 25 yards,” he added.

“But it was the most important goal I’ve ever scored for the club – definitely.

“You could see from the celebrations by the rest of the boys, that it meant so much to them.

“Dulwich are a great side and play some great football, so it was a huge three points for us. We needed to bounce back.”
