Walton Casuals manager Mark Hams will not be held over a barrel in relation to players’ wages at Waterside Drive, writes Stuart Amos.

The former Kingstonian assistant has already begun the job of preparing for next term after leading the club to a Ryman Division One South top 10 finish – 12 months after the Stags flirted with relegation.

But Hams has warned potential targets not to look at joining the club as a chance to strike it rich.

“I’ve spoken to a number of players and things are taking shape,” he added.

“Having had a good season it makes it easier to speak to people and players are showing an interest in joining us.

“But that does not mean that we are going to throw a lot of money at making the next step. We will have the same resources as last year.”
