Whyteleafe boss John Fowler enjoyed FA Cup revenge last weekend thanks to a 2-1 preliminary round win at Chatham Town.

Goals from Ryan Fowler and Tom Wellham saw Leafe through to a first qualifying round clash at home to Hastings United on September 13.

It was a different story this time last year when Chatham inflicted a 1-0 defeat on Leafe at Church Road to bring their FA Cup journey to an abrupt end.

Fowler said: “When I saw the tie I thought it would be a tough fixture, they are a good side, but when I considered the way we have been playing, I knew we stood a good chance.

“It was a comfortable win really, and we could have been 4-0 ahead before they scored. Sheikh Ceesay had to make a couple of saves, but I thought the defence was excellent.”

He added: “It was nice to get a bit of revenge of them after the way they beat us last year - in the last minute of injury time - it was a chance for payback and the players took it.”

Fowler has been boosted by the return from an abductor injury of Roscoe D’Sane, who has missed the opening games of the season.

“Roscoe got through about 75 minutes at Chatham without any reaction to his injury,” Fowler said.

“It’s great news for us, because he led the line excellently.”

Leafe return to action in Ryman Division One South on Tuesday night at Walton & Hersham, looking to continue a solid start to the season that sees them 10th in the table.
