Hampton & Richmond Borough chairman Steve McPherson has promised next season’s anticipated Ryman Premier League promotion bid will not be de-railed by a substandard pitch.

The Beveree surface will be overhauled this summer after McPherson agreed a deal with SJK Sports Turf this week.

Hampton, under boss Alan Dowson, are gearing up to challenge at the right end of the table after staving off relegation with four wins in the final month of the campaign.

Goals from top scorer Charlie Moone, Jake Rose, Ricky Newman and Duncan Culley saw Hampton come from 2-0 down to beat Peacehaven & Telscombe on Saturday and end an otherwise difficult season on a high note last weekend.

Work on the new pitch starts on May 18 and will be completed by July 8 and McPherson has high hopes.

“The root zone drainage will be revolutionised and around 50 tons of sand will be injected into the pitch,” said the chairman.

“This is a costly exercise but the board feel it’s something we need to do.

“We’re excited about next season so hopefully we’ll have a surface fit for a fight at the other end of the table.”
