Ks goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey resisted the temptation to take an extra holiday this summer and instead is well prepared to test himself against the likes of Dons' cult hero Adebayo Akinfenwa next week.

Tolfrey will miss the opening five games of the Ryman Premier League campaign serving the rest of his seven-match ban for clashing with Bognor Regis Town supporters on the Kingsmeadow terraces in February.

But it will not stop him from taking his accustomed place between the sticks for his testimonial match against AFC Wimbledon next Thursday.

Dons boss Neal Ardley and Ks chief Tommy Williams are expected to field a near first choice teams with the League Two and Ryman Premier League campaigns both starting on August 8.

And Tolfrey, who will mark six years at Ks next week, is making the most of his chance to play before he is left twiddling his thumbs in the season's opening month.

"This is something new for me, I've never been suspended at the start of a season before. It is different to what I thought it would be like," he said.

"I've been in pre-season training since day one and I've been getting my head down and working hard like everyone else, but come August 8 I'll have to sit and watch.

"I thought about having an extra holiday, but I don't think the manager would have been too impressed.

"I'm just working hard and aiming to be ready when called upon."

He added: "I'm really looking forward to the testimonial and I think both sides will be strong because the managers will want to field their sides for the start of the season.

"We haven't played them for a long time and I think I have only played them once before. I think it will be quite close because both teams will be up for it.

"It will be good to have a proper game."

Tolfrey has dropped the admission prices so an adult ticket is £8 for a match that is expected to be attended by past players who have appeared for both clubs - including Christian Jolley.

Ks, who drew 0-0 at Hastings United on Saturday, beat a Millwall XI 2-1 on Tuesday night in a game that featured striker Richard Jolly's first goal for the club.

And Tolfrey reckoned Ks had the look of promotion play-off contenders about them.

"Tommy has spread the budget about a bit more this season, has got the players he wants in and there is a bit more depth than we had last season," he added.

"We had a solid back four last year, so we have kept that and hopefully added a few more goals too.

"There are players on the bench who can come on and change games now.

"Our aim has to be the play-offs this season and hopefully the manager can find the right blend early on because we have a tough start.

"We must get off to a good start."
