Tooting & Mitcham United Sol Pinnock may have 100 appearances under his belt, but he still knows the importance of his next game.

Pinnock scored twice in his 100th appearance for the club in Tuesday's 5-1 win over Phoenix Sports of Ryman Division One North in the first round of the Robert Dyas league cup.

After a close first half, the match took a turn when Phoenix went down to 10 men after Jacob Mingle’s two-footed tackle on Christiano Goncalves earned him a red card.

Tooting then cashed in, with Dan summers, Elliott Simpson and Ashley Robinson adding to the tally in the second half.

The big win brings much-needed relief as the Terrors were coming off the back of consecutive 3-0 defeats in Ryman Division One South.

Pinnock said: “It’s been a difficult three games, but we just kept doing what we know what we can do and it paid off tonight in a good all round performance by the boys.

“We won’t get too carried away because it’s a cup game. No disrespect to the opposition, but we did expect to go out there and win the game.

“It was right to do the things we’ve been doing right in training, and it’s always nice when it comes off in a game to we’re very relieved.”

The experienced forward realises the importance of carrying on the momentum into his team’s next league game at Walton & Hersham on Saturday.

He said: “If we don’t get a good result on Saturday, then frankly today’s result doesn’t matter, even though we go through to the next round but we just need to carry on. Personally I need to do what I did tonight again.

“Targets for me are just goals and assists, the manager plays me in a kind of attacking position and if I get goals and assists then I’m doing my job.”
