New Carshalton Athletic striker Dan Summers is settling into his new surroundings well.

The Robins went to Hastings United on Saturday and registered a 1-0 win courtesy of Summers’ 31st minute free kick, his second goal in only his third appearance for the club.

That result marked Carshalton’s fourth away victory across all competitions, in stark contrast to last season when the club failed to win on the road from October onwards.

It also lifted the Robins to 16th in the Ryman Division One South table.

Summers, who also saw a penalty come back off the woodwork, said: “I was happy to score of course, but it was all about a great team effort.

“Hastings is a tough place to go with their big pitch, but we remained defensively solid for most of the game and that always gives you half a chance.

“I won’t miss another penalty though, if I’m given the chance to prove it that is.”

Summers played as a lone striker at Pilot Field, but it is a role he has relished throughout his career.

“I don’t mind playing up on my own. I like battling with centre backs and it also means our wingers and attack-minded midfielders can join in and mix it up,” he added.

The striker, if selected, will line up against his former employers tonight (Monday) as Tooting & Mitcham United visit Colston Avenue (kick-off 7.45pm).

“I’m feel sharp but my match fitness is improving with every passing game so I’m looking forward to another match so soon,” Summers said.

“I feel like I’m settling in at Carshalton very well. The management team have faith in me and I trust them in return. I’ve joined a good bunch of lads and hopefully we can all do well this season.”
