Leatherhead skipper Richard Avery has been released and boss Richard Brady has warned that there will be further changes as he looks to turn the club’s fortunes around.

The Tanners went down 5-2 at home to Hendon on Saturday, leaving them 16th in the Ryman Premier League table and with just one win in the past 12 league and cup games.

Brady has recruited left back Joey Taylor on loan from Welling United, and midfielder Wes Daly from Merstham, and more new names are expected to come through the Fetcham Grove gates.

“We are entering a transitional period because we continue in the same way,” he said.

“There will be more changes absolutely. I am pragmatic about this, I’ve stuck with the players for long enough and it was good while it lasted.

“I’ve said to the players that I am not running a fun bus, we’re here to win football matches and they know it is not good enough.”

He added: “Richard [Avery] could not commit to the club during October and we also wanted to go in a new direction.

“There’s no animosity between us, I thanked him for everything he has done both on the field and off it.

“No one likes to release their skipper, but there’s been an underlying problem all season. The players have not been doing what I think they should be doing.”

Saturday’s defeat featured a double strike from Vas Karagiannis, his first goals in eight games, but they could not stop the visitors taking all the points.

Brady said: “We actually played some good football in the first half and we were 2-2 at half-time.

“But we’d conceded in the second minute of the first half and then again in the first minute of the second half and that knocked us a bit.

“With confidence levels being what they are, we struggled to get over that.”
