Richard Pacquette may have bagged the late winner on Saturday, but Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Alan Dowson claimed it was midfielder Jake Rose who got his side out of jail.

Substitute Rose levelled matters with an 80th minute free-kick before Pacquette struck with a minute on the clock to give the Beavers a 2-1 win over Merstham at the Beveree.

“Jake’s free-kick was fantastic – it dragged us back into it when we needed it the most, it was a big moment in the match,” said the manager.

“It was a great finish but a poor game, really poor. We got out of jail really which we shouldn’t need to do.

“Rose and Newman changed the game for us really when they came on and they’ll start next week I would have thought.

“Some of our players were too complacent, I have got no time for that whatsoever.”

Hampton are now 11th in the table, but only a point off the top five ahead of tomorrow’s trip to top of the table Leiston.
