Mark Hams may have quit his post as coach at Tooting & Mitcham United, but the club still lives on in his heart.

Hams called time on his partnership with the Terrors boss Frank Wilson last month, but he still keeps in touch.

And he was one of the first to check on Wilson’s frame of mind after the 7-2 mauling by Chatham last month.

Wilson may be needing another shoulder to cry on after Saturday’s 2-1 FA Trophy defeat at Tilbury means the Terrors have now won just once in six games.

Hams said: “Frank and I had a difference of opinion in terms of the football, and I thought it best to leave on good terms rather than be at loggerheads.

“I like Frank as a character and a person, we just differ on football.”

He added: “Being a Tooting lad, and having played for the club, no one wants that club to succeed more than I do.

“Things are tough right now, and I spoke to Frank on the morning after the 7-2 defeat.

“I know what it can be like, you think everything is going wrong and everyone is laughing at you.

“He said he was OK, better than he had been the night before. I’m not sure I would have been.

“But he is convinced they are playing good football.”

Hams has stayed on at the club as part of its football hub offering, although he has not ruled out a return to management.

“At the moment I am not missing football, and football is not missing me, but there may come a time when that changes.”

The Terrors, in 18th, travel to Walton Casuals, in 14th, this weekend.
