Carshalton Athletic boast a 100 per cent record over the past five games, their front two have scored 12 goals in that time and they have powered their way into the Ryman Division One South play-offs – but boss Matt Howard has fired a warning shot across their bow.

The Robins go to Three Bridges this weekend before facing the ultimate test when runaway leaders Folkestone Invicta are the visitors Colston Avenue.

Much of the recent success owes a lot to the return to form of Dan Summers, who has finally found his feet under Matt Howard, scoring six of his 13 goals this season in the past five games.

The striker scored four goals in the wins over Sittingbourne on Saturday (2-1), and Walton Casuals on Monday (3-1 – Youseff Bamba got the other).

His threat is clearly rubbing off on strike partner Tommy Bradford, who also has six goals in five games.

However, while Howard is delighted to be in the play-offs, he knows only too well that Rome was not built in a day, and that, in football, things can change very quickly.

“Everything is starting to fall into place, and I have always been confident of this club’s potential, but we have done nothing yet,” he said.

“When Luke [Garrard], Kevin [Barker] and I came here in the summer, we knew what we had to do. We knew it would not take five minutes to turn things around and we’re not done yet.”

He added: “But we have self-belief now. We went 1-0 down against Casuals, but the lads knew if they carried on doing what they were doing the reward would come, and it did.”

Three Bridges sit in eighth place, two points below the Robins in fourth.

Howard said: “They are a good side who will fancy themselves to be up there come the end of the season.

“They are older and lot more experienced than us, and they know how to grind out a result.”

Howard is without Sean O’Toole (hernia) and Luke Pigden (ankle).
