Hampton & Richmond Borough striker Charlie Moone may be responsible for 47 per cent of his side’s total goal return this term, but he feels no added pressure to keep finding the net.

The 24-year-old netted four times in Tuesday’s 5-2 Ryman Premier League win over Hendon at the Beveree,  as the Beavers put Saturday’s FA Cup heartache behind them in some style.

It takes Moone’s tally this season to 15, with a whopping nine of those goals coming in his past five appearances.

The former Woking man had challenged his team-mates to bounce back from the weekend’s 3-1 fourth qualifying round defeat at Gloucester City – where he was on the mark again – by getting the club’s league campaign back on track in midweek.

But it was Moone who was again up to the task.

“Everyone in a team has a job and it is my job to score goals. I love scoring goals,” he said on Sunday.

“I do not feel any extra pressure. We’ve got some great players in the squad, who are more than capable of chipping in with goals.

“Before the cup game, the manager showed us a montage of all the goals we’ve scored this season and there have been some great strikes from other people.”

The Beavers host Met Police in the FA Trophy tomorrow in good form having lost just once in their past 12 games.

And Moone, who has been challenged to go on to bigger things by skipper Stuart Lake, reckoned the club’s cup form will only put them in good stead for the remainder of the league season.

“The FA Cup has made us a really tight knit team at the moment and that can only be a good thing, irrespective of the fact we are now out of the competition,” he added.

“We’ve got a winning mentality now and the run has given us that motivation to improve our league form.

“We know we can get ourselves up for the big games, but doing well in the league is about performing against the likes of Hendon, too.”
