Former Kingstonian and Corinthian Casuals midfielder Saheed Sankoh may have been among the first player’s Alan Dowson called on to come to Hampton & Richmond Borough’s rescue - but he knows that does not make him untouchable in the selection stakes.

The 26-year-old has impressed in the Beavers midfield since his arrival from Kingstonian soon after Dowson took charge at the Beveree in the wake of Paul Barry and Darren Powell’s exit.

He played a full part in Saturday’s vital 2-0 triumph at Bury Town that featured goals from Tashan Adeyinka and Jerome Federico – Hampton’s first win since October 11.

But the ex-Fulham trainee is only too aware he and his colleagues will have to keep on top of their game’s to retain their shirt, with Dowson unlikely to show any favouritism to the chosen ones.

“The thing you know from working with Alan as I have, is that your place is not always certain,” he said.

“All Dowse wants is 100 per cent. If you give him that he will have your back. The minute you start slacking he will be on at you.”

Sankoh, signed by the manager to add bite to his midfield, seems to have been on the non-League scene for decades since leaving Craven Cottage as a 19-year-old.

After being released by Woking, has featured for Ks and Corinthian Casuals – where he famously lifted the Surrey Senior Cup under Brian Adamson.

And while the professional game may not have treated Sankoh kindly, it has not diminished his love for the sport.

“It was an honour to lift that trophy for Casuals. The chairman is a good guy there and they are a club that really looks after you,” he said.

“The pitch was always immaculate and we had coach travel to all games, which meant we had a great team spirit.

He added: “I enjoy playing and watching football. Even when I am 30 or 31 years old or older I’ll still be playing, even if it is Sunday League.

“I just have a passion for the game. If I get back into the Conference South that will be a great bonus, but at the minute I am just enjoying playing.”
