Daniel Sweeney once scored a spectacular goal for Ks to beat Dulwich Hamlet, but now he is banging them in for fun for the pink and blues.

Sweeney switched to Champion Hill from Kingsmeadow earlier this month and has scored in each of his first four appearances for his new club, helping them to a Ryman Premier League haul of six points.

By contrast, boss Tommy Williams’ Kingstonian have secured three draws and slipped out of the top five since the former AFC Wimbledon youth team player departed.

The manager moved to plug the gap last week with the signature of Hendon skipper Lee O’Leary, although his introduction is still to secure a win.

Sweeney, who was only at Ks this season after a trial with National League Woking turned sour, had been looking for a move to further his career.

And, while he wishes no ill towards his former employers, he believes he has made the right decision.

“I wanted a fresh start a while ago, but ended up staying,” he said.

“Dulwich have always been a club I admired and wanted to play for.

“I've always enjoyed the way they play the game, so when they came in for me I wanted to talk.

“I want to go as high in the game as I can and hopefully a new start can help that.

“I spent two and half seasons at Ks and I wish them well. I spoke to Tommy the other day and he has got a good replacement for me in Lee O’Leary.

“They will be all right without me now. They have a good squad.

“It would be amazing if we we end of playing each other in the play-offs because it will mean we’ve both had good seasons.”

Williams, who tied midfielder Dan Bennett down to a contract until the end of the season this week, welcomes league leaders Leiston to Kingsmeadow tomorrow.

“They have started the season well, but we are on a good unbeaten run and we want to pick up three points,” he added.

“Our home form is much better than last season and I’d like to take that as a positive going into Saturday.

“This is the most open league I can remember and one or two wins can see us right back in the mix.”
