Manic Monday for Ks boss Dowson
Kingstonian manager Alan Dowson endured his own manic Monday at Kingsmeadow this week and is set to unveil the opening salvo in his summer transfer dealings next week.
The Ks chief confirmed his budget with directors before the weekend and kicked off work on building next season’s squad three days later with a string of face-to-face talks with a dozen potential targets.
Dowson is set to take his time over finalising his squad this summer, but is certain to dip an early toe into the market to secure the Blue Square South cast-offs he believes can fire Ks to a Ryman Premier League promotion challenge.
And the former Walton & Hersham boss, who will only negotiate with players in person, reckoned it could be as early as this Monday when he nails his first colours to the mast.
“I’m fit and raring to go and spent most of Monday night speaking to players at the club about next year,” he said.
“I believe we will have some very exciting news for supporters within the next couple of weeks.
“Nothing has been signed as yet and I’ll not be rushed, but I would think there will be one or two new faces.”
The Kingsmeadow chief refused to reveal what sort of war-chest he had been handed to build a team capable of bettering its 11th place finish this term.
But he confirmed he was pleased with where he stood.
“The directors have come up trumps again and I’m delighted with what I have,” he added.
“All managers are liars. You never know how much other teams have to spend and they always say they do not have the money when their team is struggling for results.
“But I know what I have got and we’ll wait to see if it is competitive.”
