Pattison hails Ks fans after cup exit
Sinking feeling: Hendon's Jack Mazzone lobs home his side's second in Wednesday's London Senior Cup final
Ks midfielder Matt Pattison paid tribute to the club’s fans after the London Senior Cup final and admitted he hoped to be around next year to put things right.
The former Walton & Hersham man was one of his side’s best performers on the night, but was unable to inspire his team to victory.
More than 300 fans, the vast majority supporting the Kingsmeadow club, stayed to the bitter end at a rain swept Imber Court as Hendon lifted the trophy.
It was a far cry from the 3,718 who packed Woking’s Kingfield stadium when Ks won the Surrey Senior Cup with a 1-0 win over landlords AFC Wimbledon in 2006 – illustrating the club’s current position in the football pecking order.
But Pattison admitted the support was no less appreciated, even if his team failed to live up to expectations.
“Week in week out they sing their songs throughout the game and after the match,” he said.
“Again, we heard the support on Wednesday, it is just a shame we couldn’t give them something more to cheer about.”
Dowson has vowed to cull his underachieving squad, but, while Pattison has impressed, he is not certain of a future at Kingsmeadow.
“I’ve enjoyed it since I moved here. I’ve not spoken to Dowse and don’t know whether he wants me here. I’d like to stay, but I guess only time will tell,” he added.
“I like the boys here. Dowse wants to make a good go of it next season, but whether I’m in his plans or not – I don’t know.”
