Carshalton Athletic striker Michael Campbell admitted that “a few honest words” were exchanged in the dressing room at full-time after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Folkestone Invicta.
The Robins, looking for a first win in four games, had the perfect start after Campbell gave them a half-time lead.
However, the hosts stormed back after the break to notch three goals in the space of eight minutes.
Campbell said: “Our first-half performance was good, we created the clearer chances and we went in front but our second-half performance got what it deserved.
“Our heads dropped when their first went in and sadly we didn’t recover.
“Its amazing how a football match can change like that - at 1-1 you can be still in it, but we didn’t fight for each other as a team and we spoke honestly about it afterwards."
Campbell’s goal was his third in five games and he said he’s settling into life at Colston Avenue since joining last months.
“The team and I are getting to know each others games and I’m pleased with my tally, but I personally know it could’ve been even better,” he said.
"I'm always looking to improve and hope I can score more goals to help get us back on the winning track."
Carshalton host Whyteleafe tonight as the Ryman League Cup first round gets underway, kick-off 7.45pm.
