Leatherhead are the early pace-setters at the top of the Ryman Premier Division, but boss Richard Brady is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

Monday night’s 3-0 win at Kingstonian – featuring a cracking double strike from Vas Karagiannis and a first competitive goal for Phil Walsh – came on the back of Saturday’s 3-0 win over Lewes at Fetcham Grove.

Tanners now have six goals in two games, two clean sheets and a maximum six points.

Kingstonian could not deal with a blistering first half Tanners performance which produced all three goals, as well as a straight red card for Ks left-back George Wells, who had been given the run-around by Karagiannis.

While the second half remained scoreless, Tanners could have extended the lead through Kiernan Hughes-Mason, but the post denied him at the death.

Brady said: “We played three Conference South sides in the build-up to the season, and although we were beaten in two and drew one, we knew we were up against a different level of football - and in each game, when I changed things towards the end, it was only then that results went away from us.

“So we were confident going into the season, but until you get up and running, we know we have quality going forward, and when they are on song they are formidable and they do some damage.”

“We always want more from them so we were a little disappointed with the second half.”

He added: “I cannot be too disappointed, that would be ridiculous, but we did not pass the ball as well as we can, and we started to get tired in the final 10 minutes.

“We didn’t need to do anything in the second half, but I felt we could have kept the ball a lot more and moved it quicker.

“They know what I expect, I don’t expect them to give the ball away in sloppy positions, which they did. We’ve set the standards and we need to keep them up.”

Leatherhead go to Staines this weekend, and Brady is well aware that his side’s good start to the season can have a positive effect on the opposition.

“We have a good group of players, there is no jumping around in the dressing room after back to back wins,” he said.

“Yep, we got six out of six, but there is a long way to go. You have got to keep that level because two wins will count for nothing come Saturday.

“In fact it makes it harder, you get teams looking at us and saying ‘Hello, what’s going on here, we need to raise our game’.”

Adam Smart hobbled off on Monday night with a dead leg, but he should be available for Saturday.
