Corinthian Casuals bossa James Bracken has revealed a summer heart-to-heart with winger Juevan Spencer is behind his flying start to the new Ryman Division One South season.

Casuals moved second in the table - behind leaders Hastings United on goal difference - after Spencer's brace and another one from Emmanuel Akokhia gave Bracken's men a deserved 3-0 win at Tooting & Mitcham on Tuesday night.

“Juevan knows what I want from him. He knows what he needs to do to play in the side," said Bracken.

"We spoke to him in the Summer and said he needs to add goals to his game and he’s scored two tonight.

“We haven’t got a bad player here at Casuals and Juevan falls into the category of another good player."

Former Sutton United reserve team manager Bracken took over the reigns at King George's Field in the summer following the depature of Matt Howard to Carshalton Athletic - 4-0 losers at home to Dorking Wanderers on Saturday.

The new manager has overhauled the squad Howard built last term, handing many players their first shot at first team football.

The move has already paid fantastic dividends with Tuesday's win following Saturday's 2-0 opening day home triumph over Worthing - that featured an Akokhia double.

But Bracken insisted his men must keep their feet on the ground ahead of the weekend trip to Hythe Town.

“The boys have been absolutely outstanding again," he added.

"After Saturday, you worry if they’re going to get to that level again of energy, commitment and quality of football but they went out there and just done it all over again from the first whistle.

“Tooting are another decent side and both teams we’ve played so far have been good, but we’re playing well.

“The boys are loving it at the moment. Playing here every week, enjoying it and winning is of course giving them a great feeling. They’re such a good unit and they trust me.

“Let’s see where we are after ten games and again by Christmas, but we’ll just keep plugging away, remain focused and work hard.”
