Carshalton Athletic marched on in the FA Cup on Saturday by virtue of the "most relieved" man on the south coast.

Forward Greg Andrews came off the bench to score in added time as the Robins beat hosts Pagham 2-1 to ensure a place in the hat for the second qualifying round draw.

The goal also meant Andrews, who scored more than 20 goals for Whyteleafe last season, finally opened his account in Carshalton red after nine appearances.

"I felt relief as the ball crossed the line because it removes a burden off my shoulders," said Andrews, who guided in a Dan Summers pass after his strike partner drew the keeper to leave an empty net.

"I'm not used to going so long without scoring, but the management team have kept faith in me.

"Hopefully I'll be able to kick on and show everyone more of what I'm capable of."

Andrews also wants his club to progress as far as possible in the cup competition, adding that any participation in it should be considered "special".

"Every player at this level should give their all in the FA Cup, we are all fortunate to be a part of it," he said.

"Hopefully we'll get a nice draw but it doesn't really matter who you get, ultimately we need to just go out there and aim to win.

"Who knows how far we can go but for any club at our level to reach the first round proper is an amazing achievement. That is something we should aspire to."

The draw for the second qualifying round of the FA Cup takes place today (Monday), the same day Carshalton Athletic host Walton and Hersham (kick-off 7.45pm).
