Kingston football fans might have raised an eyebrow at seeing Corinthian Casuals in the first round proper of the FA Trophy, but it comes as no surprise to goalkeeper Danny Bracken.

Juevan Spencer headed home Dave Hodges' cross deep into stoppage time on Wednesday to give boss James Bracken's men a 1-0 third qualifying round replay win over Ryman Premier League Grays Athletic.

It is the second time Ryman Division One South Casuals have beaten opposition from the league above on the current cup run and it came after the original tie finished 0-0 in Essex on Saturday.

"We always believed we could win," said shotstopper Bracken.

"They're flying high in the league above and we are a mid-table team from the league below.

"We know we are better than that. If we play to our potential every week we'd win the league.

"We looked like we had plan going forward and knew how we were going to score goals. They looked like they were making it up as they went along.

"We knew if we defended solidly and kept our shape then we'd be alright."

Yes: Juevan Spencer turns to celebrate the 93rd minute header that downed Grays Athletic on Wednesday

Spencer's goal collected the King George's Field club £4,000 in prize money and put Casuals into the first round proper for the first time where they will host Southern League Premier Division Hungerford Town.

"We made history coming into this round, so to go one further is a massive achievement for the players," added Bracken, the manager's younger brother.

"Considering we have no budget, no money and no expenses, to beat teams from the league above on big money, is a massive achievement."
