Carshalton Athletic boss Chris McGinn says there is still a long way to go despite laying to rest the ghost of Ramsgate on Saturday.

The Robins crashed 7-1 on the Kent coast two months ago, but two goals apiece for Ricky Korboa and Tommy Bradford, plus one from returning striker Michael Campbell, saw them emerge 5-2 winners.

It was a second win under new boss McGinn and it puts Carshalton just six points outside the Ryman Division One South play-off positions.

McGinn said: “I thought we completely controlled the game aside from the first five minutes of the second-half.

“Our short passing game was crisp throughout and the end result mirrors our dominance.”

Korboa put Carshalton into the lead on two minutes, but they could not extend that lead and Ramsgate took advantage of two slack pieces of defending to go in 2-1 up by the break.

However, the Robins took control after half-time and Campbell won two penalties that top scorer Bradford comfortably converted, and Campbell also benefitted from a sublime pass by Brendan Murphy-McVey to get on the scoresheet.

“Individual errors at his level will cost any team goals but I’m confident enough in our ability to rise above such things and get on with winning games,” added McGinn.

Korboa finished what he started with the fifth in added time and McGinn is happy with the progress his squad are making.

"I’m pleased with the player’s attitude since I've been here,” he said.

“I'm not looking at Saturday's result as the height of that progress but our movement and passing has come on bundles over the last four games.”

Carshalton’s next game is a visit to South Park on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
