It may not have been the prettiest goal of the season, but Shaun Okojie’s late scrambled winner against East Grinstead Town could be the most important, according to boss James Bracken.

Okojie’s 13th goal of the season was the difference in a 1-0 win that extended Casuals unbeaten run to three games, and keeps them four points off the Ryman Division One South play-offs with four games to play.

The first of the quartet is the visit of Carshalton Athletic tomorrow night (Tuesday) – the Robins go into the game on the back of a four-match unbeaten record.

Bracken said: “Against East Grinstead, we deserved to have the game won well before that last minute winner, and that’s probably as an important goal as we’ve had all season.

“It would have been very easy for us to feel sorry for ourselves in the last 10 minutes and settle for the fact that it wasn’t going to be our day, but we didn’t – we kept going and playing until the final whistle.

“We’ve had that determination and work-rate about us all year.”

He added: “We got our just rewards. I said to the lads, ‘If you’re going to be successful and win things, you need to have that resolve about you as a team’ and they certainly did today.”

Despite the winning streak, Bracken acknowledged they need to keep it going to have any chance of breaking into the play-offs.

After the Robins trip, the Casuals go to struggling Walton & Hersham and Walton Casuals, before finishing the season at home against Three Bridges.

“We’ve picked up three wins out of three which is what we’ve needed to do,” Bracken said.

“Realistically, we’ve got to pick up another three wins out of the last four games as an absolute minimum.

“More than likely, we’ll need to win all four. But if we keep playing like we are then that will happen.”

He added: “We’ve had a good squad all season. In fact it’s probably been too good.

“Over the past couple of months, it’s evolved and one or two have gone for different reasons and we’ve tightened up the squad a little ready for the final run-in.

“We have that in the changing room now and that’s why we’ve won three out of the last three.”
