Brady: Vital win can be survival catalyst

Richard Brady hopes Saturday’s vital victory over fellow relegation strugglers Harrow Borough can be the catalyst Leatherhead need to move out of the drop zone, writes James Haggis.

The Tanners’ Ryman Premier League survival hopes took a turn for the better after they beat Harrow 2-0, courtesy of Vernon Francis’s header and a strike from Charlie Holness – with practically his first touch as he came off the bench for his debut after joining on loan from Crystal Palace.

The three points brought Leatherhead, who have been in the relegation zone all season, to within one point of Harrow and Brady now wants them to put a run together.

“We said before we needed to win the game and it was as simple as that,” he said.

“It was a good win and hopefully that is the springboard we need, but it means nothing if we do not build on it, it is that time of the season when we need to get points.

“You need the fans the most when things are not going your way and they got behind us on Saturday and that’s all we ask them to do.

“I am delighted to have Charlie on board.

“He is a massive addition to the squad and he has got experience on his side.

“He is a good player who just needs to play games, so we are happy to have him.”

If the Tanners are to put a run together, they will need to secure victory at an out-of-form Margate on Saturday – who have lost seven and drawn one of their eight matches.

“The boys will be 100 per cent prepared and ready to go into battle,” added Brady.

“We are preparing for Margate and as much as it is a cliche, we are taking it game by game.

“We want to put wins together and avoid defeat.

“I mean, football is football and there are variables we cannot do anything about, but we will be prepared in the right way through training.”
