Met Police boss Jimmy Cooper has vowed more players will leave the club as he bids to find the magic formula at Imber Court.

The Blues crashed 2-0 at home to Ryman Premier League leaders Kingstonian on Tuedsay night to follow up the weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Bury Town in miserable fashion.

Cooper, who let Simon Huckle, Nick Hutchins and Stefan Cox leave the club in the wake of last week’s FA Cup first qualifying round exit, hopes to re-model his squad in the coming weeks.

The manager, who signed Callum Webb on loan from Welling United this week, anticipates further departures prior over the next 11 days.

Goal scoring is the Blues’ Achilles heel having failed to find the net in eight of their 12 league games thus far.

Cooper, who is in the hunt for two new forwards, admits his men face a battle to retain their league status, but insisted they were far from reaching crisis point.

“I was close to jacking it all in on Saturday,” he said.

“But if I’m honest there were green shoots of recovery on Tuesday, despite the result. It was a much better performance.

“We’ve strengthened the squad and I am surprised we are struggling at the wrong end of the table. We are not taking our chances and I have to address that.

“After 10 games the table does not lie. We have a battle on our hands to stay in this league. We will get it right.

“I’ve been happy to take the plaudits for the success we have over the years, but I’ve got to be responsible and respond to the challenge of turning things around.”

Defender Matt Fitzgerald, on loan at Walton Casuals, will go from top to bottom when he rejoins the Blues having helped the Stags to the summit of Ryman Division One South.

“Matt has been playing well. He is contracted to us and we will be recalling him. Hopefully, he will make a big difference to us,” added Cooper.

Ty Smith is expected to be fit when Met Police travel to bottom club Cray Wanderers next weekend.
