Corinthian-Casuals’ Josh Uzun believes that his side can ‘definitely win the league’ after moving into second place in the Bostik League South on Saturday.

A 3-1 win over mid-table Sittingbourne, where Uzun was named man-of-the-match for his performance put Casuals within two points of leaders Lewes, with the Sussex club yet to travel to Tolworth.

“We certainly can win this league,” said Uzun following the win. “All we’re doing is focussing on ourselves. It’s a cliché but we really are taking it a game at a time. Whatever happens, it’ll be close. We’re confident that we can win every one of our last ten games.”

Casuals got off to the perfect start when Uzun’s flick-on was inadvertently bundled home by Bourne defender Lex Allan in the seventh minute. Though the visitors equalised on 26 minutes, Casuals were back in front in no time when Uzun’s delicate pass found Gabriel Odunaike who half-volleyed into the bottom corner.

Corinth sealed the victory in the second half after Jordan Clarke whipped in a curling shot that left goalkeeper Muhammed Otuyo no chance.

The win is the fifth in a row for James Bracken’s outfit and have only lost once since Christmas.

“Personally, that was a good performance to bounce back with,” continued Uzun. “I’ve been injured for the past month, so it’s good to come back. Get a goal, an assist and get named man of the match.

“The first half from us wasn’t great but we controlled the game much better in the second half.

“With the big games, like Lewes and Cray Wanderers to come, you’re mentally up for it. But we have to be on our A game from the start of every match now.

“With the fans behind us as they have been, becoming our 12th man, we can definitely go on and win this league.”

Casuals travel to Crayford to face VCD Athletic on Saturday.
