Dale Binns is sweating on a new contract at Sutton United, and he is ready for bad news.

The 33-year-old full-back has endured a torrid season with injury, although it finished on a personal high with United’s only goal in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Maidenhead.

Binns missed much of the first half of the season with an ankle injury – making his first appearance towards the end of September.

Then, after only seven games, he picked up the knee injury that would keep him sidelined until the middle of January.

Now, with the season over, Binns acknowledged his time at Gander Green Lane could be over.

“It’s still up in the air. I don’t know what the plans are, but I believe Dos will be talking to everyone over the coming weeks,” he said.

Operation new hope at Sutton United

“I’ve not had a good season in terms of injuries, but I feel like I have recovered well since January.

“I definitely want to stay on, but it’s been frustrating playing at left back and then left midfield – I don’t actually mind where I play, but I’d like to have a run of games in one of those positions rather than chopping and changing.

“But I love the club and the fans and I’d love to stay, however if it’s time to move on, I wish them well.”

Binns, who has made 76 appearances for United, added: “In terms of the injuries, I have never experienced a season like this in my whole career.

“What was my lowest point? I’d have to say the whole season.

“It’s the first time I’ve had a season which has petered out rather than having something to play for other than pride. It’s odd.”
