Sutton United boss Paul Doswell says he is cracking down on the indiscipline that has seen the club pick up 28 yellow cards in just seven games.

Shaun Cooper picked up United’s second red card of the season in Monday’s 2-0 defeat at Whitehawk in the National League South.

Doswell was without Cooper’s central defensive partner Jamie Collins for the match, as he was serving a suspension for the red card picked up in the Truro City draw.

While not making excuses for poor refereeing decisions, Doswell admitted the indiscipline is not in keeping with his ethos.

He said: “I have always prided myself on the discipline of my teams, and so it is a surprise that we’ve picked up so many cards, but sometimes football is like that.

“I cannot legislate for referees who are on a different planet, but when it comes to things like dissent and kicking the ball away, it needs to change.

“We’ve spoken about the discipline and we’ll speak about it again before the weekend.”

He added: “The players all pay their own fines, but the big problem is how it will affect us when players are not available because of suspension – so it will be addressed.”

While Collins, pictured below right, is back from suspension, Doswell is sweating on the fitness of Ross Stearn (hip) and Dean Beckwith (foot), while Kevin Amankwaah and Simon Downer are unlikely to feature.

Meanwhile, the season ticket offer is due to end on September 12 with the visit to the Lane of Gosport Borough.

The club has sold more than 600, and in a final push United will refund the entry costs to the Gosport or Concord games against any season tickets purchased on the day.
