Paul Doswell has played down a Vanarama National League charge that could deduct three vital points.
United, currently three points off leaders Ebbsfleet, but with two games in hand, have been charged for fielding an ineligible player in the 3-0 win at St Albans in March.
Jamie Slabber, on loan from Hemel Hempstead, made an appearance as a second half substitute when United were well ahead, and the league is claiming that the relevant forms had not been lodged with the authorities and hence he could not play.
SUTTON UNITED: Doswell and co will consider appealing Amankwaah red card
However, United have stated that the paperwork was submitted to the league on time and that the league had approved the loan.
The club is not admitting the charge and will request a personal hearing.
Doswell told the club’s website: “’I was informed of the situation by Bruce [Elliott, chairman] after last night’s win at Maidstone and as we had to win all our remaining games anyway it makes no difference.
“The players will remain positive right to the end of the season, and having seen similar situations involving Darlington and Kendal where no points deduction was applied I am confident of the outcome.’’
