Phil Simpson has labelled this Saturday’s match at home to Walton & Hersham a must-win game if Tooting & Mitcham are to avoid an end of season relegation struggle.

The Terrors endured a pointless Easter with a 2-0 defeat at home to promotion-chasing Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday and a 2-1 loss away at Merstham on Monday.

It took Tooting’s winless run to seven matches and leaves them only five places and five points above the relegation zone ahead of this weekend’s crunch game against the third-bottom Swans.

“We have to be looking over our shoulder all the time,” said caretaker manager Simpson.

“Everybody is beating everybody in the league and it is a challenge now for the boys. If we don’t start picking up points we will be dragged into the relegation fight.

“But if we win this Saturday it will give us breathing space from the battle. It looks like three or four clubs will be battling to stay in the league at the end of the season and I don’t want to be one of those.

“We have to be in control of our destiny and it is a must-win game on Saturday to pull us away from it.”
