Terrors boss not one for entertainment

Tooting and Mitcham may be the place to go and see goals this season, but manager Mark Beard would rather it wasn’t.

The Terrors beat Concord Rangers 4-3 on Saturday but lost 4-1 to Kingstonian on Monday, taking their totals to nine goals scored and 10 conceded in four games.

While the neutral might find that entertaining, manager Beard does not.

“We are like Newcastle, we have to score five goals to win a football match,” he said.

“It is good for the neutral but not for me, it’s ridiculous really.

“It is the same as last season in that the goals Kingstonian scored were all preventable, they weren’t well taken ones.

“The oldest player in my defence was 20 but I cannot keep using that as an excuse, they will learn.

“I have Jay Lovett and Ben Palmer back now though so they will add a bit of experience which we need.”

Fola Onijube, Kiernan Hughes-Mason, Callum Donaghey and Freedom Piggott scored against Concord and Lee Newman netted his first goal for the club against Ks.

“I am pleased for Lee as he has worked hard and took his goal brilliantly, that is what he does,” said Beard.

“Hopefully, he will score many more.”
